Manchester United have made Erling Braut Haaland their top transfer target for 2021, according to reports.
Haaland established himself as one of the world’s most deadly strikers over a remarkable 2020 and United’s interest in the Golden Boy winner is nothing new.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of the striker who he helped develop while in charge of Molde and wanted to sign him for United last January as he was gearing to leave Red Bull Salzburg.
However, United pulled out of the deal after they refused to agree to a buyout clause and a percentage of future sales going to his agent, Mino Raiola, so he instead moved to Borussia Dortmund who had no such qualms.
The 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength in Germany, with 33 goals in just 32 games, and, according to the Sunday Mirror, United have made him their transfer priority again despite their frosty relationship with Raiola.
The ‘super agent’ also represents Paul Pogba and he caused a stir last month by suggesting that the star midfielder’s time at Old Trafford is over.
However, it’s reported that United wouldn’t be put off dealing with Raiola again and that it’s a gamble Solskjaer would be willing to take.
Although Edinson Cavani has been a revelation since his arrival in the summer, he is 33-years-old and signed to a short-term deal so isn’t seen as a long-term solution to United’s attacking needs.
It’s claimed that Haaland is the player that the United boss really wants and that a reported £70million release clause, which is said to be activated in the summer, would make a potential deal easier as there would be no need to negotiate with Dortmund.
Meanwhile, United are reportedly set to ‘cool’ their transfer interest in Haaland’s Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho.
The Sunday Mirror also reports that United are rethinking their transfer stance on Sancho after his disappointing displays for the Bundesliga club this season.
The England star was United’s top priority in the summer, but they refused to pay Dortmund’s £100million-plus asking price.
